McKeesport dealing with landslides, storm issues

McKeesport officials are trying to come up with ways to deal with many problems due to water and sewage issues caused by the onslaught of flooding and heavy rain that began in February.
Several McIntosh Drive residents brought photos to Wednesday’s council meeting to show the extent of damages caused by a landslide below the street as a result of heavy rains last week.
This weekend’s storms turned a bad situation worse, according to residents.
So far, no one’s home has been damaged, but a large portion of the hill has slid. Residents fear that if it continues to slide, the road, which is currently down to one lane, will collapse with it.
Mayor Michael Cherepko said they are treating the landslide as an “emergency situation,” and officials are actively working with Crafton-based Garvin Boward Beitko Engineering, Inc., to evaluate and repair the slide.
