Pittsburgh International Airport will offer more vacation options next summer, with Southwest Airlines adding three nonstop flights to Savannah, Ga.; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Panama City, Fla., a new destination for the airport.
Flights will leave every Saturday beginning June 5.
Southwest, Pittsburgh International’s largest airline by nonstop flights, will grow its roster from 22 destinations to 25. Some of those destinations will have larger schedules next summer, including Fort Walton Beach, Fla., which will switch from Saturdays-only to daily service.
Southwest is also Pittsburgh’s largest airline by passenger share, accounting for just over 25% of the airport’s monthly traffic in August. American Airlines and Delta Air Lines rounded out the top three with 21.4% and 17.7%, respectively.
Joe Rotterdam, Pittsburgh International’s vice president of air service development, said Southwest has been “an incredible partner” since it debuted at the airport in 2005.
Pittsburgh International now serves 16 Florida airports with the addition of Panama City.
More than 25% of Pittsburgh’s passengers fly to Florida, up from around 20% a decade ago, airport executive Dan Lagiovane said.
