Hits & Misses

We’re cautiously optimistic to learn that a buyer has agreed to terms to purchase a 9-acre portion of the former Corelle Brands glass plant in Charleroi, where plans call for bringing jobs back to the longtime industrial site. GA Group Real Estate confirmed the agreement in an update provided to the MVI last week. While the buyer has not been identified, GA Group said the company plans to use the property to create jobs. In connection with the proposed sale, GA Group said it will put the remaining approximately 17 acres of the heavy industrial property back out to bid. According to GA Group, the available portion includes multiple industrial buildings, rail spur access, heavy power, river frontage and established industrial zoning. We hope this deal goes through as Charleroi — and the MonValley — can surely use some good news and new jobs. But we’ve been down this road before only to get disappointed, so we’ll just keep our fingers crossed until the deal goes through.
