Mon-Yough River Valley Rotary to sponsor electronics recycling event

For the MVI

The Mon-Yough River Valley Rotary Club will sponsor an electronics recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Herman Mihalich Memorial Boat Launch, 1 Monongahela St., Monessen.

There will be restrictions on the number and types of items accepted at the event offered with assistance from Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling, the City of Monessen and ProWaste LLC of Belle Vernon.

The following items will be accepted: flat screen and tube televisions, computer towers, computer monitors, computer keyboards, printers and related cables, laptops, e-books, e-readers, fax machines, VCRs, microwave ovens, landline phones, am/fm radios, tape players and turntables.

The following items will not be accepted: vacuum sweepers, standalone speakers, carpet scrubbers, large console stereo systems, DVD disks and VCR tapes.

A four-item-per-person limit will be enforced.

“We held a similar recycling event in the spring and the response was tremendous because there are so many rules and regulations about how the public can legally dispose of those old TVs, radios, printers and other items that clutter our basements,” said Bob Pope, who is chairing the event for the Rotary Club.

“As everyone begins their holiday preparations and cleaning, we thought this was the perfect time to offer this service,’ Pope added. “Anyone from any community is welcome to drop off their electronics with us and we’ll safely dispose of them.”

There is no charge for this event, but donations will be accepted to fund projects in the communities served by the Rotary club.
