There was promising news out of Charleroi this week as the former Corelle Brands glass plant was put on the market. GA Group Real Estate announced that it has launched a formal call for offers on the heavy industry riverfront property and is hoping to find a new owner that will bring jobs back to Charleroi. “This vacancy represents a rare opportunity to acquire a turnkey facility with established heavy industrial entitlements, direct rail and riverfront access well below replacement cost, while bringing jobs back to the Mon Valley,” said Chris Draper, senior vice president at GA Group. Draper added that the firm has already received interest from prospective buyers, and he expects “a competitive, market-driven process” as the sale proceeds. Draper also stated that the company didn’t set an asking price for the plant, preferring to let the market determine that. Ever since Anchor Hocking’s surprise announcement in 2024 that it planned to move Pyrex production to its plant in Lancaster, Ohio, there has been hope that the Charleroi facility could either be saved for glassmaking or repurposed for another industry. We may be getting closer to the day when that happens. Kenneth Medved got a chance to thank everyone involved in his rescue after he suffered a medical emergency June 13 at White Oak Heritage Pool. Medved attended Monday’s White Oak council meeting, where lifeguards, other pool staff members, private citizens and EMS providers were honored for their part in saving his life. A medical emergency caused Medved to lose consciousness in the deep section of the pool, and he had to be rescued and revived. “It is only because of these fine young men and women — including Officer (Martell) Fontaine, citizen Brian Easter and all those I forgot to mention that I am alive and here with you all tonight,” Medved said. “I want to tell everyone how lucky I am, and how lucky we are, to have these brave and dedicated citizens by our side.”
