Mon Valley man accused of driving erratically during test drive
A Rostraver Township man is accused of driving erratically at speeds exceeding 100 mph while test driving a vehicle with a C Harper Jeep Dodge Chrysler Ram dealership sales employee.
Dustin M. Schachte, 46, of Bailey Lane, was charged by Rostraver Township police with recklessly endangering another person.
The sales employee told police she took Schachte for a test drive of a 2025 Dodge Durango on June 1. At the beginning of the drive, he allegedly asked her, “Do you have anyone you love you want to call before,” according to the affidavit of probable cause.
The employee told police her “heart dropped,” after which Schachte laughed and acted like he was joking. During the drive, he allegedly had the truck sideways getting onto south Route 51 and continued speeding towards I-70. He allegedly kept telling her he was a “race car driver,” the affidavit states. She told police the truck veered to the side again as he was getting off Route 51 and onto I-70, where he was traveling about 110 mph, the complaint states.
The employee showed police her Life360 app on her phone, which offers real-time tracking, vehicle travel speeds, etc. The app allegedly showed she was traveling from 12:55 p.m. to 1:06 p.m. at speeds of about 104 mph.
Schachte faces a preliminary hearing 9:30 a.m. June 27 before Magisterial District Judge John Christner in Rostraver Township.
