Community leaders, residents, stakeholders and regional partners gathered Wednesday at the Armory Court & Event Center as participants in Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.’s Leadership Development Initiative cohort presented the final report for its Community Impact Project focused on the City of Monongahela.

The event marked the culmination of months of collaboration between the LDI XXXIII cohort, the City of Monongahela, the Mon Valley Alliance Foundation, community organizations, residents and business leaders. Through stakeholder engagement, community conversations, research and analysis, the cohort developed recommendations intended to help guide future planning efforts and identify opportunities for continued revitalization and investment within the city.

The strategic plan focused on identifying Monongahela’s existing assets, understanding community priorities and developing actionable recommendations tied to economic development, community revitalization, quality of life, connectivity and long-term sustainability. The project also emphasized the importance of partnerships, regional collaboration and resident engagement in shaping the city’s future.

“Monongahela already has strong assets, committed leadership and a passionate community,” said Jamie Colecchi, CEO of the Mon Valley Alliance. “This strategic planning effort helped identify opportunities to strengthen those assets and create actionable steps that can support long-term revitalization, business growth and quality of life improvements.”

Leadership Pittsburgh Inc.’s Leadership Development Initiative program is designed to advance the growth and learning of high-performing, developing professionals across sectors throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Community Impact Project component of the LDI program provides cohort members with the opportunity to work directly with a host community to create recommendations and strategies that deliver significant value to the host, its people and businesses.

“The Community Impact Project is one of the most meaningful parts of the Leadership Development Initiative program because it allows participants to engage directly with communities and contribute to projects that can create lasting impact,” said Jenn Beer, President & CEO of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. “We are thankful to the City of Monongahela and the Mon Valley Alliance Foundation for welcoming this cohort and sharing their vision for the future.”

The event also highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, with participation and support from local government officials, community organizations, businesses, residents and members of the LDI Steering Committee. Throughout the process, community input played a central role in shaping the final recommendations presented by the cohort.

“What stood out throughout this process was the willingness of community members and organizations to engage in honest conversations about opportunities, challenges, and priorities for Monongahela. That level of participation is what helps make strategic planning meaningful and actionable,” said Amanda Mueller, representing the LDI Steering Committee.

Monongahela representatives expressed appreciation for the work completed through the partnership and the opportunity to gather new perspectives and ideas that can help inform future planning efforts.

“We appreciate the work and dedication that the LDI XXXIII cohort invested into this project and the thoughtful recommendations they presented to the community. This effort provided valuable outside perspective while also reinforcing the priorities and ideas shared by our residents and stakeholders,” said Monongahela Councilman Roy Sarver.

The presentation concluded with discussion among attendees regarding future opportunities, implementation strategies and continued collaboration to support Monongahela’s growth and revitalization efforts.

LDI is a program of Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. designed to advance the growth and learning of high-performing, developing professionals in Southwestern Pennsylvania. The Community Impact Project immerses participants in a regional community where they work collaboratively to deliver meaningful value to local residents, organizations and businesses.
