Reported White Oak child luring was misunderstanding

The McKeesport Area School District released a statement Friday that warned families about a potential child luring incident.

However, a short time later, White Oak Police posted on their Facebook page that it determined after an investigation that the incident was a misunderstanding.

According to the police, the incident took place Thursday, but a report wasn’t submitted until Friday. It allegedly happened at the bus stop located at Vermont Avenue and California Avenue in White Oak between 2:40 and 3:10 p.m.

“White Oak Police made contact with the complainant as soon as we were made aware of the incident and initiated an investigation,” the police department said. “The investigation has revealed that this was a misunderstanding. An elderly woman asked two children for assistance cleaning snow from her vehicle.”

Before police posted their statement, the school district said it was going to work with the department to have an increased presence at the bus stop. The school district had not issued an update as of press time.
