North Belle Vernon officials sworn in for new year

By TAYLOR BROWN, Senior Reporter

Mayor Craig Ambrose and four council members were sworn in.

North Belle Vernon officials took care of routine reorganization business Monday night, swearing in the mayor and council members and opting to keep most leadership positions the same.

Longtime Democratic Mayor Craig V. Ambrose was sworn in for another term after running unopposed in the November election.

Three candidates ran for four open four-year council seats. Democrats Jon P. Wasicek, who received 269 votes, Karen W. Jones with 258 votes, and John J. Gilmore with 235 votes won seats. Cody Ambrose was selected to fill the fourth seat. All were sworn in during the meeting.

Council leadership will remain unchanged, with Brett Berish continuing as council president and Jones serving as vice president.

The borough also kept its professional services in place. Remington & Vernick will continue as borough engineer, and Mark Ramsier will remain solicitor.

Department heads also stayed the same. Brian Bennett will continue to lead code enforcement, Shelby Ferguson will oversee emergency management, Walter Knapp will remain in charge of public works and Eugene Lipari will continue as police chief.

Regular borough meetings will continue to be held at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the North Belle Vernon Borough Government Center, 503 Speer St.
