The first-ever Amazon same-day delivery facility in Western Pennsylvania has launched in Imperial, Allegheny County — aligning with last-minute holiday shopping.

The fulfillment center is 191,000 square feet, and it will bring over 100 full- and part-time jobs across Allegheny County, according to Amazon.

“The opening of this new facility in Imperial is an asset for Allegheny County and the broader tri-state region,” said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. “Our county continues to see investment in stateof- the-art logistics and operations facilities, and this newest addition only further positions us as a strategically located hub of innovation.”

Amazon said the facility will service the Pittsburgh region — spanning from Wheeling, West Virginia, to New Castle, and from East Liverpool/Steubenville, Ohio, to Greensburg and the Mon Valley, touching Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland counties.

The new center seeks to make faster deliveries to customers, as the center “was designed for speed,” according to Amazon. Its launch is just in time “for the home stretch of the holiday season.”

Maura Kennedy, Amazon’s head of economic development in Pennsylvania, said the new center will leverage the company’s advanced robotics technology to deliver packages to doorsteps “faster than ever before.”

Packages will be able to be fulfilled, sorted and delivered all from the same facility in Imperial.

Currently, same-day delivery is available on millions of items for customers across more than 9,000 U.S. cities and towns, and there are plans to expand to even more areas in the coming years, Amazon said.

Specific products vary by city, as they’re regularly updated based on top customer items purchased or based on seasonal demand in the area, according to the announcement.

Since 2010, Amazon said it has invested more than $33.7 billion in Pennsylvania and has created more than 31,000 direct jobs across the commonwealth.
