High winds and dangerous snow squalls impacted roads and caused power outages around the Mon Valley Friday.
Multiple counties across Western Pennsylvania were under a snow squall warning through Friday evening.
The warning was issued for Allegheny, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Indiana, Jefferson and Lawrence counties.
The squalls and dropping temperatures caused flash freezes on roads and rapidly falling visibility due to intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds up to 35 mph.
West Penn Power outages were reported in Monessen, Rostraver Township, Allenport, and Bunola throughout the day.
Snow showers and the wind was expected to die down Friday night, making way for a dry weekend with temperatures dropping from Saturday to Sunday. Temperatures will start off chilly this morning, but trend more seasonal in the afternoon with highs in the 40s, according to WTAE-TV weather.
Christmas morning will likely start above freezing with highs on Christmas Day well into the 50s. Weather forecasters said there is no white Christmas for the region this year.
