Smithton fire chief honored for 50 years of service
State Rep. Eric Davanzo, R-Smithton, recently presented a citation to Smithton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joel Ribniscky for 50 years of dedicated service. Ribniscky began his service in 1975, rising through the ranks from firefighter to fire chief — a position he has held for the past 20 years. Beyond his role as chief, he continues to serve as chaplain and a member of the executive board, and has been instrumental in improving the department’s equipment and apparatus. He is also a familiar face at community events, including Smithton Borough’s annual Light the Night holiday celebration. In addition to his volunteer service, Ribniscky is a forestry warden with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. “For five decades, Chief Ribniscky has answered the call at all hours, often at great personal risk, to protect lives and property. His leadership, sacrifice, and dedication embody the very best of the volunteer fire service. Thank you, Chief Ribniscky, for 50 years of service to Smithton and to our Commonwealth,” Davanzo said.
