George Woodward Simpson Sr. – Formerly of Donora

George Woodward Simpson Sr., 90, passed peacefully in the presence of family on Sund a y , Nov. 23, 2025, in Edgewater, Md. Born on 27 Dec., 1934, and raised in Donora as an equally proud Scot and “Mon Valley” man, he lived life according to his grandfather’s simple request: “Be a good lad.” His lifelong ambition to be the kind, compassionate, protective, humorous and devoted family man that all who knew him loved was evidence of his innate fulfillment of that promise. George graduated from Donora High School in 1952 and went on to attend Pennsylvania State University, where his 1956 graduation preceded an incredibly diverse 28-year career with the United States Air Force. His proud service saw him stationed around the globe before his 1984 retirement as a lieutenant colonel in Austin, Texas, where he retired again following 15 years as a state employee to be with his wife Alice Gardner Simpson, whom he had spent 46 years building a life and family alongside, prior to her passing. George later reconnected with and wed childhood friend and classmate Dorothy Kovalak in 2002. The majority of
