CAL Charter School provides holiday meals for 10 families

The Thanksgiving meal program is one of several initiatives designed to support CAL families beyond the classroom.

California Academy of Learning (CAL Charter School) provided complete Thanksgiving meals to 10 local families this holiday season as part of the school’s ongoing commitment to student and community support.

Organized by the school’s leadership team and assisted by staff and partners, this initiative ensured that each family received a full Thanksgiving dinner. The entire dinner included a turkey, vegetables, pantry staples, desserts, and all of the traditional holiday fixings. The dinners were presented in gift baskets to the families.

“This is who we are at CAL,” said Heather Nicholson, chief executive officer. “Our school is built on the belief that strong communities create strong students. We want our families to know that we are here for them, not just academically, but in every aspect of their lives. Providing Thanksgiving meals is a small, but meaningful, way we can show our gratitude and support.”

California Academy of Learning, a public charter school located on Orchard Street in California, Pa., offers a rigorous and personalized academic program focused on helping each child grow. With small class sizes, individualized instruction, and a student-centered approach, CAL is dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive environment where every learner can thrive. The curriculum emphasizes project-based learning, STEAM enrichment, literacy development, and strong social-emotional support. The school’s committed faculty and staff prioritize positive relationships, family engagement, and high academic expectations.

As CAL continues to expand its programs, facilities, and community partnerships, the school remains focused on its mission: to provide exceptional educational opportunities while uplifting families throughout the region. The Thanksgiving meal program is one of several initiatives designed to support CAL families beyond the classroom and strengthen the school’s role as a community anchor. CAL is a 501c3 nonprofit and the only brick and mortar Charter School in Washington County, PA.
