Veterans Day parade, services set in Valley
Numerous events are planned to mark Veterans Day around the Mon Valley and Pittsburgh area.
Here is a look at some events scheduled to commemorate Veterans Day:
Mon Valley Veterans Day parade today in Roscoe
For the first time in its storied history, the annual Mon Valley Veterans Day Parade will march under the leadership of Roscoe’s American Legion Post 801.
Lineup will start at 10:30 a.m. today in Stockdale near the fire department on Railroad Street.
The opening ceremony is set for noon outside the Stockdale VFD.
Retired U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Dave Papak will serve as parade emcee.
McKeesport to hold Veterans Day services
The City of McKeesport will celebrate Veterans Day with a ceremony at Memorial Park along Lysle Boulevard at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The keynote speaker will be PA AMVETS State Cmdr. Paul Foresman. Participating organizations include McKeesport Area High School’s Air Force JROTC, Choir, and band.
Veterans Day services to be held at Charleroi honor rolls
The Charleroi American Legion will hold 2025 Veterans Day services Tuesday at the following honor rolls:
• 9 a.m. Speers Hill
• 9:30 a.m. Fallowfield Township
• 10 a.m. North Charleroi/ Lock 4
• 11 a.m. Charleroi
• Noon Dunlevy
McCauley Funeral Home to host veterans’ service at West Newton church
The J. William McCauley Jr. Funeral Home will hold a veterans’ service at 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the West Newton Methodist Church, 106 N. Second St., West Newton.
Speaker will be U.S. Air Force Col. Jason Medsger, Headquarters Air Force/Security Forces (A4S).
Sponsored by the funeral home and the West Newton Association of Churches, the service will salute all deceased veterans and POW/ MIAs.
Names of deceased veterans from West Newton and the surrounding communities who died from Nov. 1, 2023, through Oct. 31, 2025, will be read and a candle-lighting ceremony will be held. Any family who did not receive an invitation and would like their veteran to be honored should call the McCauley Funeral Home at 724-872-6699 by Nov 4.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Rededication ceremony set at Donora memorial
The AP Delsandro Veterans Memorial Committee will host a rededication ceremony to mark the reconstruction of the memorial in Donora.
The ceremony will take place at the memorial, located on Route 837, next to the Donora Post Office at Sixth Street and Meldon Avenue, at 9 a.m. on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Donora Fire Hall.
The keynote speaker will be retired U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Dave Papak. Also speaking at the ceremony will be Sen. Camera Bartolotta, Mon Valley Alliance CEO Jamie Colecchi, Donora Mayor Don Pavelko and William Booker, a longtime supporter of the organization. Veterans Day program to be held at MASD High School
The annual Veterans Day program at McKeesport Area High School will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 11 in the McKeesport Area High School auditorium, 1960 Eden Park Blvd.
The program is held each year as a tribute to those who have served or continue to serve in one of the armed forces: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force.
The program features musical performances from the band, directed by Noah Crawford, orchestra directed by Sarah Persin, and choir under the direction of Beth Eger.
Veterans who have served in any battle in any war are encouraged to attend and be honored for their service.
After the 4 p.m. concert, the audience is invited to join the musicians and singers for snacks and drinks in the high school cafeteria.
The concert is free and open to the public.
PennWest salutes veterans
PennWest President Dr. Jon Anderson signed a proclamation Wednesday designating Nov. 10-14 as Military and Veterans Appreciation Week at Pennsylvania Western University.
At PennWest California, a community lunch and program will begin at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the South Wing of the Convocation Center.
The keynote speaker will be James Martin “Marty” Coode, a 1998 California graduate and U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Coode enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17 and served with Marine ground forces in Guam and later in Beirut, Lebanon. He was honorably discharged in 1983.
Following his military service, Coode earned his bachelor’s degree in history from the California campus, graduating magna cum laude, and went on to support fellow veterans as a peer support specialist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Veterans Day Parade today in Pittsburgh
The annual Veterans Day Parade in Pittsburgh will begin at 10:30 a.m. today. The parade starts at the intersection of 10th Street and Liberty Avenue and proceeds along Liberty Avenue.
Pittsburgh is home to one of the largest and longest running Veterans Days Parades in the country. The Pittsburgh Veterans Day Parade has run every year since 1919.
