Spedaliere defeats Lander in Rostraver tax collector’s race

By LADIMIR GARCIA lgarcia@yourmvi.com

Newcomer Jody Spedaliere has been elected tax collector in Rostraver Township, ousting incumbent Republican Patricia Pat Lander in a close race.

According to unofficial election results, Spedaliere held a 1,680 to 1,637 lead with all precincts reporting.

“I just really want to thank my team, they worked hard at the polls, and made phone calls, spread the word,” Spedaliere said. “I also want to thank everyone who put out a sign and voted for me. But also, I’m looking forward to serving all of Rostraver Township as the next tax collector.”

Spedaliere said his priorities will be opening the option for cash payments again and setting up a drop box for residents to submit their taxes after hours and weekends.

“The office will be open during lunch on Fridays, the months when taxes are due, later hours on Thursdays,” Spedaliere said. “Also going to be looking to get a secure drop box so that people can submit their taxes on nights and weekends. I just want to make it more convenient for the residents of the township.”

Tax collectors are responsible for gathering municipal, property, and personal taxes, as well as potentially other taxes and fees levied in a community. They are elected to four-year terms.
