As temperatures drop, Allegheny County has announced its winter shelter plan for the homeless community.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services said Monday that the plan will be in effect from Nov. 15 through April 30.

On Nov. 15, the county will open a winter shelter — which will have 140 beds — in partnership with North Side Partnership Project and Community Family Advocates.

The partnership will include free transportation to and from Second Avenue Commons, located Downtown, and the shelter at Community Resource Mall located in North Side, according to a news release.

The county will also open 52 additional beds at the Salvation Army and East End Cooperative Ministry and a small number of beds at Second Avenue Commons for people with mobility challenges.

Total shelter capacity for single adults will be more than 600 beds.

Shelters open to everyone include:

• Second Avenue Commons, 700 Second Ave., Downtown. Open 24 hours a day.

• East End Cooperative Ministry, 6140 Station St., East Liberty. Open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m.

• Family Links, 1601 Fifth Ave., Uptown. Open 24 hours a day; provides shelter for youth ages 18 through 24.

• McKeesport Downtown Housing, 523 Sinclair Street, McKeesport. Open Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Team PSBG Low Barrier Shelter McKeesport, 523 Sinclair Street (rear), McKeesport. Open 24 hours a day.
