Domenic T. Galilei – Monessen

Domenic T. Galilei, 99, of Monessen, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born on Dec. 21, 1925, in Monessen, the son of the late Alphonso and Lena Vecchione Galilei. He was a member of Epiphany of our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Domenic served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1943-45. He was a Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class and flew combat missions in the Pacific as part of a three-man TBM Avenger Torpedo bomber crew aboard the aircraft carrier USS Chenango. He was a radioman, gunner and bombardier and took part in several campaigns in the Pacific, including the Battle of Okinawa. After an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Domenic was employed for over 40 years at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked as a pipefitter and plumber. He took pride in taking care of his family and was a handyman around his own house and for any neighbor in need. He is survived by his son, Ronald (Valerie) Galilei; two daughters, Vicki (Jim) Danoy and Tina (Ken) Treater; six granddaughters, Lea (Cody) Duffin, Kelly (Mike) Danoy- Bonacorsa, Katie (Sam) Cook, Nikki Treater, Raquel (Bob) Gee and Rosalyn Burger; grandson, Scott (Jenna) Galilei; great-grandchildren, Stella and Kody Duffin, Livi Galilei, Lena, Leyla and Liza Cook, and Rylah, Reese, Remy and Roxy Gee; and brother, Alfred Galilei. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary A. (Sendek) Galilei; great-granddaughter, Sofia Bonacorsa; and brother, Frank J. Galilei. Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at DALFONSO-BILLICK FUNERAL HOME INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES, 441 Reed Ave., Monessen. Services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home with a blessing service, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at Epiphany of our Lord Church with the Rev. Anthony Onoko officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery. Condolences are being accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
