Sensory-friendly event returns to Allen’s Haunted Hayrides

By SARAH PELLIS spellis@yourmvi.com

It offers the fun of the normal presentation, but in a less frightening way.

On Sept. 19, a beloved local attraction Allen’s Haunted Hayrides in Smock will host its fourth annual sensory-friendly night.

Allen’s Haunted Hayride has been a staple in the community for over 45 years, offering spooky entertainment and memorable experiences for families.

According to a release from Allen’s, the event is a unique and inclusive experience for all.

Designed to accommodate individuals who may not get to normally enjoy a haunted attraction due to loud sounds, jump scares, flashing lights and large crowds, the event will have hayrides, haunted tavern and reservations for campfires.

Lights will be on with no loud bangs, jump scares or fog and the event is wheelchair, handicap accessible and allows service dogs. Cookies, s’mores and cold beverages will be provided with other vendors and games there.

The addition of the Sensory Friendly Night adds to the attraction’s appeal, as it provides an opportunity for individuals who may not be able to participate in traditional haunted attraction events to still enjoy the Halloween season.

“On this special evening, the haunting fun will be tailored to create a comfortable atmosphere for all participants,” the release states. “The music will be turned down, and the lights turned up, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the hayride and walkthrough without feeling overwhelmed.”

The ticket booth will be open at 7 p.m., the parking lot at 6 p.m. and attractions will start at dusk. Tickets are $25 for the haunted hayrides, the haunted tavern and hayrides are $40 and a campfire, which can accommodate up to 20 people, is also $40.

“It’s a night dedicated to inclusivity, allowing everyone to partake in the Halloween festivities,” the release said. “Join the community for a night of fun, laughter, and unforgettable memories at Allen’s Haunted Hayrides’ Sensory Friendly Night.”
