An annual oldies concert to raise money to aid local veterans is being planned in Clairton.

The eighth annual oldies concert at the Buzzy Weber Pavilion in Clairton Park is set for Sept. 13. Park gates will open at 11:30 a.m.

The opening of the concert will begin at 12:15 p.m. with Amzi Lightner giving the invocation, Pledge to the Legion, and National Anthem.

Clairton American Legion Post 75 will provide the flags with a 21-gun salute to veterans.

Post Commander Bob Haramia will give opening remarks.

The concert will begin at 12:30 p.m. with five shows providing continuous entertainment until 8 p.m.

The concert is being held in conjunction with the City of Clairton and Clairton American Legion Post 75.

Proceeds from the show will be used by the American Legion to fund a variety of programs aiding local veterans.

Haramia and DJ Johnny O will share master of ceremony honors.

Performers this year are Chuck Corby and Quiet Storm, the Pittsburgh Belairs, performing doowop, oldies and Motown favorites, The New Pure Gold Band, Jimmy Ross and The Jaggerz and Chuck Blasko and The Vogues.

Droopy’s Catering will be on hand with a selection of food items. Soft drinks and adult beverages will be available for sale throughout the day by the Clairton Lions Club. The Lions Club also have for sale brooms, trash bags, and candy by Lion John Myers.

No outside food or coolers will be allowed in the park.

The original concert was the brainchild of Magisterial District Justice Armand Martin Sr. and Andy Duboy, leader of the local veterans organization.

Today, Martin’s son, Armand Martin Jr., continues in his father’s footsteps.

This year’s organizers are Clairton Mayor Richard Lattanzi, Duboy, Guy “Boots’’ Benack and Ralph lnbrogro. Duboy is concert chairman and Benack and lnbrogro are co-chairs.

The committee is appreciative to the more than 30 individuals and businesses who donated to making the concert a success. The money raised by the concert will be used to assist local veterans in need providing them needed medical equipment, holiday meals and other services.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the gate. Concertgoers should bring lawn chairs or blankets and there is plenty of free parking on site.

For tickets, call the Clairton American Legion 412-2339903 or Andy Duboy at 412708-3945.
