The Mon/Yough Trail Council is inviting the public to its 31st annual Yough N’ Roll celebration set for Sept. 13 at the Boston Trail Access in Elizabeth Township.
Since 1994, Yough N’ Roll has been a popular annual event with area cyclists and families.
Riders in the Yough-N-Roll and Family 4 Mile Ride can set their own pace and distance starting from the Boston trailhead. There are 40and 20-mile options that turn around at Cedar Creek Park in Rostraver or Sutersville, respectively. The family ride turns around at the Twele Road Pavilion.
The pre-registration deadline for the annual Yough-NRoll bicycle ride is Sept. 2.
The ride will be followed by a free Party on the Trail at the Boston access from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The trail council will be serving up free hot dogs while supplies last, starting at 11 a.m. The event will offer musical entertainment, food, children’s games, raffles, prizes and more.
The trail council will also be collecting used children’s bicycles. The bikes will be donated to the Red Lantern Bike Shop, where they will be refurbished and distributed to children with limited access to bicycles. During the Yough N’ Roll event, Red Lantern will offer free bike inspections and will perform minor repairs and adjustments.
Both events are fundraisers for the Mon/Yough Trail Council. Volunteers maintain 15 miles of trail between McKeesport and the border of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. The Mon/Yough Trail Council was founded in 1991 and is one of the nation’s oldest all-volunteer rails-totrails organizations. They are the stewards of 15 miles of the Great Allegheny Passage.
Bicyclists can sign up the day of the event: starting at 7:30 a.m. for the 40-mile ride, 8:30 for the 20-mile ride and 9 for the family ride. More details are available at thebostontrail.com/yough-nroll- bike-ride.
