6 pets killed as fire hits Fallowfield Township home
Firefighters reported heavy damage to the interior of the structure.
A Fallowfield Township family lost six pets in a Tuesday afternoon fire.
Shortly after 1 p.m., emergency calls began flooding the 911 center reporting a house fire in the northwest end of the township.
Fallowfield VFC was dispatched within minutes, with the brush truck responding simultaneously due to the narrow streets in the area.
When Brush 2 reached the home at 32 Rosewood Drive, crews were met with a wall of dense, gray smoke billowing from the brick home.
Crews entered the structure and began extinguishing the flames while searching for several pets reported to be inside. A family member later said on social media that four dogs and two cats were killed in the fire.
Mutual aid companies were called in for a second alarm due to limited manpower and hot temperatures.
The fire was knocked down, but the inside of the home was scorched.
Flames had torn through the kitchen, leaving blackened walls and cabinets hanging in tatters. Countertops were buried in charred debris; the oven and stove, blistered and warped, was shown in pictures amid the chaos of melted cookware and food containers.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours conducting salvage, overhaul and cleanup operations.
Departments on scene included Charleroi Fire, Lock 4, Stockdale, Bentleyville, Monessen No. 1 and Monessen Hilltop, North Belle Vernon, Belle Vernon and Rostraver EMS, along with West Penn Power and Columbia Gas.
Officials credited the coordinated effort for quickly containing the blaze despite challenging conditions.
