Police said Matthew J. Roth lost control of his vehicle on State Route 481.

A Blairsville man died early Sunday morning in a vehicle crash in Carroll Township.

According to a release from Washington County Coroner S. Timothy Warco’s office, Matthew J. Roth, 21, was the operator and sole occupant of a vehicle that was traveling south near 798 State Route 481 when he lost control of the vehicle around 3:07 a.m.

Roth struck the concrete parapet of a bridge at the intersection of State Route 481 and State Route 2023 after losing control, and then the vehicle caught on fire. Roth was also not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report, and was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m.

A passing motorist came upon the wreckage and contacted Washington County 911. Tri-Community EMS, Carroll Township and Valley Inn fire departments responded to the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation by Carroll Township police, and Roth’s cause of death is pending his autopsy.
