1 killed, 2 hurt in Route 51 crash

By SARAH PELLIS spellis@yourmvi.com

The accident took place Friday morning in Jefferson Hills.

A woman was killed Friday morning in a multiple- vehicle accident on Route 51 in Jefferson Hills.

She was identified by the Clairton Volunteer Fire Department as Kayleigh Brosius, a probationary firefighter with the department.

The Jefferson Hills Police Department said in a Facebook post that first responders were called to Route 51 around 6:20 a.m. for a three-vehicle crash.

Police said a tractor-trailer and two pickup trucks collided along the 1400 block of Route 51 near the area of Beer’N’At. The road was closed for several hours before reopening around 12:50 p.m.

Two other people involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals and were listed in stable condition, Jefferson Hills police said on Facebook.

Elizabeth Borough Fire Chief Chad Rager said Brosius was involved in classes at their station.

“A lot of our guys are in the dumps about it right now,” Rager said. “It’s very sad. Both vehicles were badly damaged. It looked gruesome. Even the Jefferson Hills chief said it was bad, and he hasn’t seen anything like that all the time. I tell everyone that speed kills.”

The SHACOG Crash Reconstruction Team was contacted to assist officers with the investigation, according to Jefferson Hills police. No further details were released as it is an active investigation.

Police are asking anyone with video from this incident to contact them at 412655-2222 or policeinfo@jeffersonhills.net.
