Games teach life skills at 1790 log house
For the MVI
Games to teach necessary life skills to 18th century children will offer fun experiences for families at the Greenock Log House in Elizabeth Township from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Bean bags tossed at wooden animal figures will show how children chased critters from their family gardens. Hatchets or a facsimile of those used will demonstrate how to split wood.
During rare free time, children would test their strength through tug of war or hone their artistry by painting household items. So, there will be bouts with tug of war and opportunities to decorate small boxes.
Elizabeth Township Historical Society members Paula Bowman of Jefferson Hills and Diane Filotei of Elizabeth Township are organizing the day, which will also offer hot dogs, beverages and bake sale goods at 1235 Greenock Buena Vista Road.
Also, crafters and artists may reserve 10-by-10 spaces for Greenock Log House Days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Checks for $25 by Aug 12 or $30 after may be mailed to Debbie Gilbert, 1109 Sommerset Street, McKeesport, Pa. 15135.
