B&D Fireworks set for Saturday in Monessen

By LADIMIR GARCIA lgarcia@yourmvi.com

The free community event is set for Saturday at the Herman Mihalich Memorial River Launch and Park.

The annual Monessen B&D fireworks show is set for this weekend, and owner Buzzy Byron guarantees a lot of fun for everyone who comes out.

The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday with food vendors and more at the Herman Mihalich Memorial River Launch and Park. Fireworks will begin at 10 p.m.

“Come down to the boat launch, we have a nice riverside park down here,” Byron said. “And, if kids want to bring their own sparklers and all that kind of stuff here, they are more than welcome to do all of their own little stuff.”

Byron said they expect local businesses like the Steel Plate and Flame City Pizza to be among the vendors at the event. He added that the Monessen Fire Department will also be serving food.

Byron said that they’re still inviting food vendors to come on Saturday and set up if they’re interested. Food vendors who come on Saturday will not be charged to set up.

Byron said that they’ve been doing the community fireworks for 12 years and they appreciate the help from their sponsors.

“We want to thank all our Monessen sponsors for putting this on,” he said. “I mean, this is a free event. Nobody makes any money from this fireworks show. All my workers work for free. There are no charges on there.”

According to Byron, B & D does firework shows throughout Western Pennsylvania, and they simply enjoy having an event in their hometown.

“If people want to bring their own grills, their own hibachi, whatever, pack your own picnic baskets or drinks. They could do that too,” he said. “There’s room down here if they want to bring corn hole games or badminton or whatever they want to do.”
