Monongahela pedestrian accident under investigation

Emma Lou Ferrari, 85, of Monessen, died at UPMC Mercy Hospital 13 days after she was struck by a vehicle in Monongahela.

A pedestrian accident in Monongahela last month that resulted in the death of a Monessen woman nearly two weeks later is under investigation, city police confirmed.

Emma Lou Ferrari, 85, was crossing West Main Street on June 12 after leaving her knitting group when she was struck by a vehicle.

Ferrari was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital after the accident, where she died on June 25.

The accident is currently under investigation, according to Monongahela police Chief Kevin Harris. He said currently no charges have been filed, but the incident was sent to the Washington County District Attorney’s office for further review.

A member of the former St. John’s Lutheran Church of Charleroi, Ferrari was a retired Charleroi Area School District science teacher, loved animals – spending countless hours volunteering with various humane organizations, according to her obituary.

Her family said in her obituary that her compassion and endless kindness were “immeasurable.” She also was known for her quiet intelligence and natural elegance, qualities that touched everyone who knew her.

The Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home in Monessen handled the funeral arrangements.
