Monessen’s free ‘Music in the Park’ series to kick off

Local rockers Broom will open the concert at 1 p.m. Sunday at the City Park Amphitheater.

The City of Monessen and the Mon Valley Academy for the Arts invites residents and visitors alike to come together for a summer of music, community, and celebration as the free Music in the Park series returns to City Park this weekend.

The series kicks off at 1 p.m. Sunday at the amphitheater in City Park, a beloved community gathering spot in Monessen.

The concert will open with a performance by local rock group Broom, followed by a featured set from legendary soul-rock singer Billy Price and the Billy Price Band.

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public, thanks to the generous support of local donors including the Myles D. Sampson Family Fund, Alumicore, The McKinney Charitable Foundation, His Place, Westmoreland County Parks and Recreation, cfsbank, Cleveland-Cliffs, By George, city Councilwoman Karen Cosner, Mayor Ron Mozer and his wife, Bonnie Mozer, Theodore Collins, and Valley 1st Community Federal Credit Union.

To accommodate attendees, handicapped drop-off will be permitted at the lot adjacent to the amphitheater, with additional vehicle parking available nearby. General parking will be provided in the upper park lots, along Wilson and Euclid Streets, at the Knights of Columbus parking lot, and weather permitting, in the center of the walking track area, which will be directed by volunteers.

His Place Coffee, Community and More will offer hamburgers and hot dogs for purchase, as well as items for sale by Double M Pizza, and Wild Ginger Root, while the Salvation Army will be on-site with free water and sports drinks to keep everyone refreshed.

Guests are encouraged to bring seat cushions for amphitheater benches or blankets to relax on the grass above the stage.

“This is a celebration of community and culture,” said Mayor Ron Mozer. “It’s about bringing people together in a beautiful space to enjoy great music and make summer memories.”

Attendees are also encouraged to explore Monessen’s rich culinary scene following the concerts. Local favorites include By George, La Eda’s Family Restaurant, The Steel Plate, Bailey’s Diner, Lucchesi’s Bar and Restaurant, Felicia’s Restaurant and Lounge, Domenico’s on Grand, and Armando’s, all ready to welcome guests for post-show dining.

So grab a blanket, bring the family, and come enjoy the sounds of summer in Monessen. Music in the Park is more than a concert series, it’s a tribute to tradition, togetherness, and the city’s vibrant spirit.

Future concerts are:

• Sam Bill Legacy Band, TC Jr. Stage Band, Take 5 Brass, 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 24.

• Mon Valley Push and Sky Pilot, 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 21.
