PennDOT concrete work to restrict traffic on I-70

Single-lane restrictions will be in effect beginning today on a stretch of Interstate 70 in Rostraver and South Huntingdon townships and during several weekends on a segment of the interstate in North Belle Vernon and Rostraver.

PennDOT said concrete pavement work will trigger overnight restrictions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, extending from Monday through Saturday.

Motorists can expect to encounter the restrictions while traveling eastbound between the Arnold City and Smithton exits and while headed westbound between the Smithton and Route 51 exits.

The road work and traffic restrictions are related to PennDOT’s $120.6 million reconfiguration of the Route 51 interchange and reconstruction of adjacent portions of Route 51 and I-70.

Weekend restrictions are slated between 6 p.m. Fridays and 6 a.m. Mondays stretching over eight weeks while contractor Golden Triangle Construction Company conducts concrete pavement patching, drainage repair and barrier replacement between the Route 906 (Belle Vernon/ Monessen) and Arnold City exits.

That work will affect travel in both eastbound and westbound directions and is part of an overall $9.69 million concrete preservation project on I-70 that is expected to continue through late fall.

Meanwhile, PennDOT is planning the following work on roads in Westmoreland County during the week beginning today:

• A washout will be under repair on Brinkerton Road in Hempfield Township.

• Paving will take place on Route 380 in Washington and Bell townships and on Stone Church Road in Hempfield Township.

• Patching will take place on Route 30 in Ligonier and Derry townships.

• Shoulder stabilization will take place on sections of Route 711 in Cook and Fairfield townships, Brinkerton Road in Hempfield Township and Murrysville-Trafford Road in Penn Township, • Inlet cleaning and pipe flushing will take place on Brinkerton Road in Hempfield Township.

• Pipe installation will take place on Route 982 (Kecksburg Road) in Mt. Pleasant Township and Laughner Road in Fairfield Township.

• Pipe replacement will take place on Youngstown Ridge Road in Unity Township.

Ditching will take place on the following roads: • Route 711 (Market Street) in Ligonier Township;

• Bethel Church Road in Unity Township;

• Barren Run Road in South Huntingdon Township;

• Water Street in East Huntingdon Township.

Crews will pick up litter, replace road signs and perform other tasks on various routes countywide.

Motorists should anticipate potential detours, lane restrictions and flaggers in work areas.

Residents can call PennDOT tollfree at 800-349-7623 to report road maintenance concerns and the locations of dead deer on state highways.
