In a battle of Mon Valley foes in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A softball playoffs, it was No. 12 Bentworth that pulled off a 9-1 upset over No. 5 South Allegheny.

After being unable to pitch for the majority of the regular season, Bentworth star Sydney Gonglik returned to the circle for the Bearcats (9-9) and dominated in a winning effort. She went the full game and allowed three hits, one unearned run and two walks with 15 strikeouts.
