Pirates beat Braves in Kelly’s first game

To say the last 24-plus hours have been a whirlwind for Don Kelly is a massive understatement.

Kelly, 45, was elevated to manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday afternoon after Derek Shelton’s dismissal and had a quick turnaround before debuting as skipper, as the Atlanta Braves arrived at PNC Park on Friday to begin a three-game series.

Kelly was not above admitting he had some jitters as he prepared to take charge of the Pirates, who entered Friday riding a seven-game losing streak.
