Elected offices up for grabs in Fayette County
Primary Election 2025
The candidate lists for the 2025 primary municipal election for Fayette County have been announced. Primary election day is May 20. The last day to register to vote in the primary is May 5. The last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot is May 13.
Election day is May 20. Here’s a look at who is on the ballot for row office and municipal elections in Fayette County’s Mon Valley communities.
Recorder of Deeds
Incumbent Jon R. Marietta Jr., a Republican from Redstone Township, faces a challenge for his party’s nomination in the May 20 primary by Christina Becker of Luzerne Township. The winner will face Democrat James Santilli of South Union Township in the November general election ballot.
County Treasurer
Incumbent Melissa Tzan, a Republican, faces a challenge by Democrat Matthew Lancaster of Menallen Township. Barring any successful write-in campaigns, they will square off in the fall general election.
Jury commissioner
Competing for one jury commissioner seat are Democratic candidates Trinette Schmidt-Cunningham of South Union Township and Coreyann Fluker of North Union Township. Frank Mutnansky of North Union Township is the lone GOP candidate.
Magisterial District Judge 14-3-04
Richard A Kasunic II of Dunbar Township faces no opposition for reelection to the Perry Township-based magistrate seat. Kasunic crossfiled.
Belle Vernon Borough
Longtime Mayor Gerald W. Jackson, a Democrat, is unopposed for reelection.
Vying for one of three, four-year council seats are Democratic incumbents Frank E. Monack, Laurie Lazzari Charnack and Joseph Minniti Jr. They face opposition by Republicans Edward A. Stasko Sr. and Denise A. Stasko.
Tax collector Alison R. Figueroa is also running
as a Democrat.
Fayette City Borough
Longtime Mayor Herb Vargo Jr. is seeking reelection on the Democrat ticket.
Three, four-year seats are on the ballot for council. And there is only one candidate, Democrat Dianna M Vargo. There are no Republicans on the ballot. Sherri Eley is running for tax collector.
Jefferson Township
There is one, six-year seat open for Jefferson Township supervisor. Democrat William L. Stuckslager and Republican Tony Hela are both running for the seat.
Newell Borough
Longtime Democratic Mayor Nicki M. Todaro is unopposed for reelection.
Democrats John E. Matty III, Keli Ann Aglio, Susan L. Snyder and John M. Snyder are running for one of three, four-year council seats. No Republicans are on the ballot.
Perry Township
Barry Shoaf is seeking the Democratic nomination for one, six-year seat on the board of supervisors.
Democrats Robert Kershey and Rebecca D. Johnson are both running for tax collector.
Perryopolis
Democratic Mayor Charles W. Petrosky has no opposition.
Democrats Wayne Nicholls and Joseph Ambrose Jr. and Republican Niel Costabile are the only candidates for four, four-year council seats.
Washington Township
Republican Supervisor James Scott Hileman is unopposed for reelection.
Georgette McGavitt is unopposed for tax collector.
