Mon Valley Home Show set to begin 34th year

It will run through Sunday at cfsbank Event Center.

The 34th annual Mon Valley Home Show officially kicks off today with plenty of exhibits to check out.

The event, hosted by Equipment Connection and Beacon Supply, will be held at cfsbank Event Center (formerly Rostraver Ice Garden) from 2 to 7 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The entrance fee is $5 per adult, $3 for senior citizens and free for children 12 and younger. The Mon Valley Independent is a sponsor, and a $2 off admission coupon can be found on Page A8.

John Lunt, president of Equipment Connection and one of the managing members of the home show, said there’s a lot to see this year.

“It’s just a great day to go out and see what people have to offer,” Lunt said. “If you have projects around your house, if you need landscaping done, if you’re looking to put a retaining wall in, or do a new roof, or do new entrance doors or windows. There’s just a little bit of everything.”

Lunt said the home show has been taking place for more than 100 years in the Mon Valley, originally starting as the “Farm and Family Show.” Over the years, the number of vendors has increased, and Lunt said visitors can expect more than 100 this year.

The show will feature insurance providers, financial advisors, roofing companies, heating and air conditioning technicians, and a lot of other local Mon Valley businesses.

“These are people from within your community that work within your community, and are your neighbors, your cousins, your brothers, your sisters, and it’s just a great event,” Lunt said.

There will also be food vendors as well.

According to Lunt, businesses are required to have insurance to be able to participate

in the home show, so all the contractors at the event are insured.

“It’s just a great way to reach out to people in the community, whether you are the customer or whether you are the contractor or vendor,” Lunt said. “It’s just a great way to thank your customers for the years of patronage, and it’s a great way to thank your contractors and your vendors for their service that they give up every day to be here for you in your community.”
