Alumni event will give first look at West Mifflin upgrades

By By LIAM BELAN lbelan@yourmvi.com

West Mifflin is inviting alumni and outside visitors to the high school Saturday for the Titan Evolution Alumni Madness event to celebrate recent renovations to its athletic facilities and connect with the local community.

Not only will the event showcase the new turf and lights at the baseball and softball fields, but there are also several other events to look forward to.

The festivities start with the First Annual Community 5K and Kids Mile through P3R at 11:30 a.m. before an alumni boys and girls varsity basketball game in the main and auxiliary gyms are joined by alumni cheerleading at 2 p.m.

Anyone interested in participating can register at https://admin.eservicestech. com/p/westmifflinschool/ events and there will be limited same-day registration as well.

Other scheduled events including a K-5 kickball game, varsity baseball and softball games, alumni baseball and softball games, and a performance from the alumni music department have been postponed to a later date due to weather.

“I think this is great. This administration and school board have surely made a conscious effort to make sure that our facilities are second to none, and they surely are, but also to reach out to our alumni in hopes that they can come back and look at what we’re doing here,” West Mifflin athletic director Lance Maha said. “We want them to come back and see what we’re doing here at West Mifflin, not just from an athletic facilities standpoint, but from the standpoints of academics, community service and all other areas.”

Included in the renovations are a new athletic hallway that includes new display cases with a Hall of Fame display.

“If you haven’t been back to the school for some time, it’s completely changed,” Maha said. “It looks great, and we’re really excited about it. The support from our upper administration and school board has been second to none in making these things possible.”

The festivities will end with an alumni gathering at Mulligan’s at 8 p.m.
