Dr. Gerald Vincent Bruno – Madison, Miss., formerly of Rostraver Township

MADISON, MISS., FORMERLY OF ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP Dr. Gerald Vincent Bruno, 81, of Madison, Miss., formerly of Rostraver Township, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024. Born in New Y o r k City on Sept. 29, 1943, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Catherine Susan Hecklick Bruno. Jerry was a 1961 graduate of Rostraver High School. He graduated from Case Western College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, and he continued his education at Cornell University, where he graduated with a Doctorate Degree in Physical Chemistry. He also did research at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., and Rice University in Houston, Texas. He was the chair of the chemistry department, taught pre-med students for over 30 years and had an active role in cancer research at Tougaloo College. Jerry loved playing the piano, especially classical music. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and scuba diving and loved traveling, especially with his family. He always cheered for the Pittsurgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is survived by his sisters, Maria (Kenneth) Kite of Rostraver and Judy (Gary) Main of Selbyville, Del.; and his special cousins, Anthony Calderone, Pat Weldon, Carmel Calderone, James Bruno, Sandy Greco and Dr. Regis Serinko. He was the beloved “Jerry Unc” to his special nephews, Angad Singh Bedi and Abhi Singh Bedi, and he provided for their needs and mentored them throughout their education. Jerry was also survived by close friends, Gayle Pierce and Pooja Raj and her son, Aikam Govil. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Bruce Bruno. Per Jerry’s request, his body was donated to the University of Mississippi for medical research.
