Jon E. ‘Gene’ Golashewski – Rostraver Township

ROSTRAVER TOWNSHIP Jon E. “Gene” Golashewski, 90, of Rostraver Township, died peacefully in his home on Satur day, Dec. 14, 2024. Born in Monessen on May 30, 1934, he was the son of the late Stanley and Mary Solan Golashewski. Jon retired from his trucking business, Mon Valley Express, that he shared with his late wife, Helen. He was a member of the “Thirsty Five” Polka band, which he enjoyed most of all in his life, and was well known to all around the Mon Valley. He was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Monessen and was president of the church for many years. He was a member of the Ukrainian Club and was a member and past president of the F.O.E. in Monessen. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He is survived by his sons, Stanly and Jon Golashewski; daughter, Andrea Francis (her late husband, James S. Francis Sr.); grandchildren, Victoria “Mushka” Mirenna (her late husband, Marc Mirenna) and Diana (Mark) Mosco. He was “Didi” to his great-grandchildren, Joel, Justin, Jacey and Jerzy Mirenna and Kayla, Willie and Dominic Mosco. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen D. Kortina Golashewski; grandson, James S. Francis Jr.; and brother, Lawrence T. Golashewski. Family and friends are asked to meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at Grandview Cemetery Chapel, 1528 Leeds Ave., Monessen, for a committal service and entombment with Father Stephan Gresh officiating.
