Glen Andrew Gernat – Pittsburgh, formerly of Donora

PITTSBURGH, FORMERLY OF DONORA NOV. 30, 1954 – OCT. 19, 2024 It is with deep sorrow and much love we mourn the passing of our brother, Glen Andrew Gernat of Pittsb urgh, Pa., on Oct. 19, 2024, at the age of 69. He was the son of Andrew and Irma Gernat of Donora, Pa. Glen will be sadly missed by his son, Damian, who was his pride and joy; his brother, Barry Gernat; and sister, Crystal Gernat Mazon. He was also the loving Uncle of Brian Mazon, Samantha Gernat and Tabatha Gernat. Glen grew up in Donora, Pa. and served in the Navy for four years on an aircraft carrier. His passion was writing, singing and playing music on his guitar, keyboard and harmonica. For many years he performed live at coffee shops and various venues around Pittsburgh. He was a big Steelers and Penguins fan. He also had his deep-sea scuba diving license and went on numerous shark dives with his brother, Barry. For those of us who really knew him well, we’ll remember Glen as a kind and gentle soul with a good sense of humor. He had a knack for telling animated stories that would make you laugh out loud. He loved all his family and friends from the Mon Valley, and, in his later years, cherished his friends at Dunkin’ Donuts, where he went every day for coffee and conversation. We find comfort in knowing Glen is now at home with God, peacefully resting in the Lord’s loving embrace. A private service will be held at a later date at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
