Bearcats overcome early deficit to top Carmichaels

Ben Hays and Preston Jaquay combined for five TDs in the 33-15 victory.

Bentworth went down 15-0 but scored 33 unanswered points the rest of the way and captured a 33-15 victory over Carmichaels in Tri-County South Conference play Friday.

The home Bearcats (4-2, 2-1) were led by Ben Hays and Preston Jaquay, who accounted for all five of their touchdowns.

Hays finished with 253 rushing yards and three scores on 15 carries while Jaquay opened Bentworth’s account with a 60-yard kickoff return and also scored on a 3-yard run in the third quarter.

Carmichaels (2-2, 1-2) was led by Cannon Bupka, who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. His touchdown run in the first quarter was 77 yards.

Bentworth will travel to take on West Greene next week, another team with a 2-1 record in the Tri-County South Conference.

McKeesport 54, Hampton 7

McKeesport traveled to Hampton to kick off Greater Allegheny Conference play Friday night and returned home with a dominant win.

Kemon Spell (189 yards, three TDs) and Anthony Cromerdie (98 yards, two TDs) each had just three carries a piece, but they combined for 287 yards and five scores for the Tigers (24, 1-0).

Kaedyn Daniels opened the scoring with a 3-yard interception return, Valdez Stuvaints scored on a 7-yard run and Javier Everett reached paydirt from 3 yards away to cap off the scoring at 54-7.

Up next for the Tigers is a home matchup against conference foe West Mifflin.

Charleroi 17, Sto-Rox 6 The Cougars picked up their first win of the season Friday against the Vikings.

No game information or statistics were reported.

Mars 42, West Mifflin 14

Mars dominated West Mifflin in the Greater Allegheny Conference opener as quarterback Eric Kasperowicz accumulated four touchdowns.

Kasperowicz ran for scores of 5 yards and 3 yards twice, and he connected with Blake Yates for a 43-yard score in a strong performance.

West Mifflin (2-4, 0-1) was led by Armand Hill, who tallied 163 rushing yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. Quarterback Zahir Ismaeli ended the scoring with a 1-yard rushing touchdown.

Cornell 38, Serra Catholic 6

Serra Catholic traveled to Cornell for Black Hills Conference action and left with a brutal setback.

Cornell’s (5-1, 2-1) Walter Clarit led the way on the ground with 10 rushes for 119 yards and two touchdowns.

Serra Catholic’s (1-5, 0-2) scorer wasn’t reported as the Eagles got on the board in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles will hope to rebound at home next week against Bishop Canevin.

Brentwood 41, Frazier 18 Brentwood’s Cedric Davis dominated the game Friday in Eastern Conference action against Frazier.

The Spartans’ (3-3, 2-1) quarterback finished 10 of 14 for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Daysaun Spencer was the squad’s leading receiver, catching three passes for 103 yards and a score.

For Frazier (1-5, 0-3), quarterback Brady Secrest accounted for two touchdowns while Derek Diamond scored on a 2-yard run.

Secrest scored on a 5-yard run and opened Frazier’s account with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Kolby Stewart in the first quarter.

The Commodores will look to grab a win next week when they host Leechburg for more Eastern Conference action.
