PAGES OF THE PAST

2004

• At a town hall meeting in the former Transfiguration Catholic Church in Monongahela, Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik left no doubt where he stood on the fate of the church. “I’m not here to talk about buildings, and you need to know that,” he said. “The church is not about buildings.” The bishop gave those in attendance at the meeting some homework. He asked them to write him a letter asking them to answer two questions: “Why do you need a parish here in Monongahela and what are you going to do personally to make that happen?” Zubik said he would make his final decision about the church’s fate sometime early in the coming year.
