An Allenport man is behind bars after police said he resisted arrest for illegal possession of firearms.
Christopher Hartley, 44, of Allenport was charged with prohibited possession of firearms, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
When state police arrived at a residence on Anderson Street in Allenport Friday evening, Hartley’s wife told them that she and her husband argued “over him being intoxicated and handling guns,” according to the criminal complaint.
Hartley was convicted of aggravated assault in 2001, which prohibits him from owning a gun.
Police said Hartley “appeared to be highly intoxicated” at the scene as he told them that he was cleaning his guns in his shed.
When police informed Hartley that he was not allowed to have a firearm and directed him to put his hands behind his back, he said, “No, (expletive) you,” according to the complaint. Police forced Hartley to the ground and cuffed him.
Unable to post bail, Hartley is lodged in Washington County Jail.
A preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Michael Manfredi is slated for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3.
