Penguins announce training camp roster

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced the roster for their upcoming training camp which opens Wednesday in Cranberry.

In total, 69 players were invited: 38 forwards, 25 defensemen and six goaltenders.

Four additional players are not medically cleared to participate: forwards Beau Jelsma, Jagger Joshua and Matt Nieto as well as goaltender Taylor Gauthier.

Nieto is approximately four months removed from knee surgery. The team initially offered a time frame of six to seven months for recovery.

Jagger is signed to an American Hockey League contract with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Gauthier is in the final year of a three-year entry-level contract, and Jelsma was signed to an amateur tryout agreement with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in April. Both players skated for the Penguins team in the Prospect Challenge hosted by the Buffalo Sabres this weekend.
