Two Warriors, five Leps qualify for WPIAL golf championships

A pair of golfers from Elizabeth Forward will represent the Warriors girls program at the WPIAL Class 2A Individual Championships following Tuesday’s Section 3-3A qualifier at Victory Hills.

Defending WPIAL champion Mya Morgan shot an even-par 71 to finish as section champion.

Morgan will be joined by teammate Sydney Boyd, who finished fourth overall at 11over 82.

The qualifying mark was an 87.

The first round of the Class 3A Championships will be held Monday at Willowbrook Country Club in Apollo. Those golfers fortunate enough to advance will head to the final round Sept. 30 at Butler Country Club.

Leopards heading to WPIAL tourney

The Section 2-3A Boys Individual Qualifier was held Monday at Butler’s Golf Course.

Playing the par 72 Woodside Course, Belle Vernon Area’s Jordan Mocello dominated the course on his way to a section title.

Mocello shot a 1-under par 71, one stroke ahead of his teammate Jack Edwards to win the section crown.

The qualifying mark for the WPIAL Class 3A Championships was 82.

Seth Tomalski shot a 76 for the Leopards and Donnie Croftcheck added a 77 finishing fourth and fifth overall.

BVA’s Landon Vaccaro shot an 81 to qualify for next week’s WPIAL first round.

The 3A boys first round will be held Tuesday at Southpointe Golf Club in Canonsburg.

The final round will be held Oct. 1 at Oakmont Country Club.
