Phylis Jean Jones Petrosky – New Eagle

Phylis Jean Jones Petrosky of New Eagle went to be with the Lord on Sept. 15, 2024. Phylis was a resident of John Lignelli Manor in New Eagle since 2006. Phylis was born May 25, 1937, in Miracle Run, W.Va. In 1950, the Jones family relocated to Monessen, and she graduated from Monessen High School in 1955. Phylis began her working career by cooking and cleaning at age 13. Upon graduating, she secured a job at JCPenney in Monessen, where she was employed for nine years. She started her family when she was 27 years old and became a stay-at-home mom. Years later, she returned to the workforce as a patient care tech at Lawson’s Nursing Home, Concerned Care and Helping Hands. Phylis had an extreme love for the elderly and children. She began babysitting for families after leaving the patient care field. Phylis was a foster grandparent at Ringgold Elementary School North for five years. Phylis enjoyed spending time with her friends at John Lignelli Manor, the Monongahela Senior Center and Journey by Grace Church. She loved baking, cooking and sharing meals. Phylis was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, George Petrosky; her parents, Harold Maylon Jones and Nellie Marie Stewart Jones; sister, Bernice Lowe; and step-great-grandson, Elijah Mersburgh. She was the proud mom to Mark Petrosky (Shirley) of Bentleyville, Jeff Petrosky (Kerry) of South Park, Melissa Petrosky of Bethel Park, Melinda (Petrosky) Kalinowski (Rick) of Finleyville and stepdaughter, Terri Tada. Phylis’ grandchildren include Alexis Petrosky of Raleigh, N.C., Abbie Petrosky of West Palm Beach, Fla., Zachary and Lacey Kalinowski of Finleyville, and bonus granddaughter, Kristy Faccenda of Bethel Park; step-grandchildren, Laura Mersburgh (Isaac), Kawika Oliver and Mahealani Miles; and stepgreat grandchildren, Isaac and Isaiah Mersburgh. Phylis’ siblings include Jesse Jones (Barb) and Harold Jones, both of Charleroi. She was also the proud aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME, 427 W. Main St., Monongahela. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, at Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. William Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
