PA CareerLink Mon Valley sets open house

By TAYLOR BROWN, Senior Reporter

It will take place Thursday at the organization’s new Charleroi office.

PA CareerLink Mon Valley will host an open house Thursday to share information and resources with area residents, employers and job seekers.

The open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new Mon Valley office, located at 130 McKean Ave, Charleroi.

PA CareerLink moved its office from Donora to Charleroi in July in an effort to provide a more convenient location for its clients, including the growing immigrant population in the area.

Site Administrator Rachel Rotolo said the open house and resource fair will provide information on available programs, training opportunities, GED classes and transportation.

“We will have information for job seekers and employers and will have a translator on site for Haitian, Creole, and French,” she said.

The event is being conducted in conjunction with PA CareerLink Awareness Day, which was held for the first time across sites throughout the state on Aug. 12, 2021.

During awareness days, offices hold events that focus on clients, providers and employers, along with how CareerLink services serve as a common link to connect those resources.

Rotolo said she felt an open house, in conjunction with awareness day, makes sense because of its recent ribbon-cutting at the new location.

PA CareerLink Mon Valley had a ribbon-cutting at its new site Aug. 16.

The office, which is situated downtown near a bus stop, is expected to be a more accessible location for CareerLink’s clients.

It offers a variety of workforce development services, which include help with creating resumes, applying for jobs and obtaining a GED. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays.

English as a Second Language classes, which have about 85 people on the waitlist, are conducted every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at the CareerLink office and the Presbyterian Church of Charleroi.

Intermediate Unit 1 and Literacy Council of Southwestern PA work together to provide ESL and GED classes, which take place at Career-Link in the morning Tuesdays through Thursdays.

“We just thought an open house would be nice since we did just reopen,” Rotolo said. “So we are ea- ger for people to stop by and learn a little more about us and see our new space.”

Several agencies are slated to attend including: Southwest Training Services Inc., Washington Greene Job Training Agency Inc., Intermediate Unit 1, Douglas Education Center, Council of, Three Rivers American Indian Center, Mid-Mon Valley Transit Authority, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, Express Employment Professionals, Dress for Success, Johnson Shaw Foundation, Blueprints, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Pennie and Small Business Development Center.
