Rostraver library offers lessons to improve computer skills
Interested people can sign up for the one-on-one instruction by contacting the library.
Rostraver Public Library will offer a free program to help people advance their computer skills.
The program provides oneon- one lessons by a “digital navigator” who will determine what people need help with. Kelly Yoskosky, program coordinator at the library, emphasized that the class is not an introduction to learning computer skills.
“This is for people who want to advance their computer skills in a job that they’re already in, or if they’re looking for a job that requires them to have additional computer experience,” Yoskosky said.
Anyone interested can call the library at 724-379-5511 and they will arrange a session with a digital navigator. The navigator will assess their skills and determine what they need to learn.
The program is being led by a Pittsburgh nonprofit called Computer Reach that received a grant and then partnered with the Westmoreland Library Network to create the free program.
Computer Reach offers multiple programs throughout the region to help people enhance their computer skills and aims to make it available for those most in need.
“Libraries, of course, are a good place for that, because it’s quiet, people can sit down and learn what they need to learn without any disruptions,” Yoskosky said. “It’s not going to cost them anything to use our facility.
“It’s not just us, it’s through, there’s other organizations with other libraries that are doing this as well, but it was just something that they felt the libraries would be just a great place to initiate.”
Computer Reach offers computer lotteries where people can enter their name to receive free equipment. The computer bundle lottery offers one desktop computer, one computer monitor, one keyboard, one mouse and the necessary cords for everything.
Anyone interested in the lottery can sign up at https:// www.computerreach.org/ programs. The form is available in Spanish if needed.
Some of their digital literacy classes aim to teach people how to navigate email, internet safety, social media and more.
