Leps top Ringgold to start season

The WPIAL’s defending Class 2A golf champions had no issues getting the season started off on the right foot after moving up in class.

The Belle Vernon boys traveled to Rolling Green Golf Course Monday and handed the host Ringgold Rams a 182239 loss to open Section 2-3A play.

Jordan Mocello took medalist honors for the Leoaprds, finishing with a teamlow 32 over the nine holes.

Seth Tomalski finished at 34 and Jack Edwards carded a 36 for the Leopards (1-0, 1-0).

Donny Croftcheck finished with a 37 and Wyatt Lukas a 43.

Looking best for the Rams (0-1, 0-1) were Evan Callaway with a 36 and Evan Anderson with a 42.

Brice Kowall finished at a 49, while Trevor Benson and Kolton Dewar capped off the Rams’ scoring with a pair of 56s.

The Rams are back in action on the road at Albert Gallatin Wednesday, while the Leopards will host McKeesport the same day.

Waynesburg 195, Bentworth 232

The Raiders picked up a win over the Bearcats to open Section 3-2A play Monday at Rohanna’s Golf Course.

Chase Phillips took medalist honors for Waynesburg, firing a 4-over par 36. Joe Kirsch and Dom Benemati each finished with a 39.

Ross Skerbetz led the way for the Bearcats (0-1, 0-1) with a 41. Teammate Wyatt Snyder finished one stroke behind with a 42.

Bentworth hosts McGuffey Wednesday at Chippewa.

Seton LaSalle 218 (13), Frazier 218 (17)

The Commodores fell to the Rebels Monday after dropping a playoff hole, 13-17.

Frazier was led by Travis Smith’s 42, while Eli Cernuska, Aidan Hardy and Dylan Keilbach each carded a 43. Tyler Monack ended his day with a 47 for the Commodores.

Regis Manion shot a 37 to claim medalist honors for the Rebels (1-0, 1-0). John Dolan shot a 40, while Parker Hazaga added a 45.

The Commodores (0-1, 0-1) host Geibel Wednesday at Linden Hall.

Eliz. Forward 197, Yough 280

The Warriors were led by a 33 from Aaron Didjunas as they cruised past the Cougars in a Section 8-2A match at the Madison Club.

Luke Boyer (38) and Gavin Madden (40) combined to shoot a 78 for Elizabeth Forward (1-0, 1-0).

The Cougars (0-1, 0-1) were led by Anthony Bonari’s 50. Sydney Scherich added a 55.

The Warriors host Southmoreland today and Yough travels to Charleroi Wednesday in section contests.

Girls Elizabeth Forward 166, Southmoreland 202

Behind an even-par 35 from defending WPIAL champion Mya Morgan, the Warriors set a new school record for team score with a win over the Scotties in non-section golf action.

Sydney Boyd shot a 42, Annalise Didjunas added a 44 and Alizabeth Leezer ended with a 45 for the Warriors (3-0).

Southmoreland was led by Kendall Campbell’s 46.

The Warriors are back in action Thursday at Gateway in a Section 3-3A match.
