Board set to hire new principal at BVA High School

Zachary Just is expected to be approved at today’s special meeting.

The Belle Vernon Area school board will hold a special meeting today to hire a new principal for BVA High School.

The meeting comes after former principal Michael Sable resigned July 24 to become a principal at Chartiers Valley High School.

“We are sorry to see Dr. Sable leave BVA, but wish him well,” Superintendent Timothy Glasspool said. “Dr. Sable has fostered strong relationships with students and families. He was a competent BVA administrator who p r o v ided insight into complex challenges.”

The special meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Leopard Hall on 250 Crest Ave.

The only item on the agenda is to hire Zachary Just as the new principal.

Just was formerly the principal at Rostraver Elementary School, but he resigned to take the principal position at South Allegheny High School.

BVA announced July 24 that it was looking for a new high school principal. Glasspool said they started to reach out to people who were seeking other administrative positions and encouraged them to apply.

“The position was advertised as ‘open until filled.’ Our goal was to move quickly, but not sacrifice a quality hire for the sake of time,” Glasspool said. “We received numerous applications and spoke to several other individuals including Mr. Just.”

On July 16, the board also approved the hiring of Jamie Maksin, who will be an assistant principal at BVA High School.

“We are extremely pleased that Mr. Just is interested in becoming the next Belle Vernon Area High School principal,” Glasspool said. “We believe that Mr. Just, and recently hired Assistant Principal Mrs. Maksin, will continue to move our school forward.”

For those interested in attending the meeting virtually, a Zoom link will be posted to join on the BVA school district website prior to the meeting at https://www.bvasd. net.
