More than 850 West Penn Power customers were without electricity as of 8:45 p.m. Monday after strong isolated storms moved through the area damaging utility poles and downing trees.

More than 1,200 customers were also without power on either side of Route 51 in Elizabeth.

A sizable area of Penn Township between Harrison City-Export Road and the Pennsylvania Turnpike was affected by the outage, according to West Penn Power.

National Weather Service officials said the storm moved through the area around 8 p.m., bringing high winds and hail in some places.

Penn Borough and Manor were among the communities with pockets of power outages, and Westmoreland County emergency officials fielded calls for multiple trees down in the area of First Street in Manor, including one which fell onto a home on the 1200 block.

Duquesne Light is reporting more than 3,200 customers without power, with most concentrated north of the Turnpike and west of Route 8 in Hampton and Richland.
