Louis Angelo Mongelluzzo – Pinehurst, N.C.

Louis Angelo Mongelluzzo will always be remembered for his passion for life, generosity and love of his family. Louis Angelo Mongelluzzo, 82, of Pinehurst, N.C., passed away at home on May 25, 2024. Louis was born in Allegheny, Pa., on Aug. 21, 1941, to Louis Mongelluzzo and Margaret Keegan. Louis was brought up in a hard-working small town, Donora, where families of many different ethnic backgrounds found work at the local steel mill. Lou’s father was of Italian descent and his mother was Irish Catholic and one of 15 children. Lou would often comment there was a different church on every corner, but together they formed a cohesive community. Louis joined the U.S. Navy, serving on the Thomas Edison and Francis Scot Key, Nuclear Submarines Sonar Navigation Division in its Blue Crew. Louis was stationed in Glasgow, Scotland, where he met his wife at a club when she took a chance and danced with a Yank. Ann gave birth at Groton Connecticut Naval Base to the couple’s only child, a daughter. After being honorably discharged, Louis was hired by General Electric Oceanic Division of Military Defense in Syracuse, N.Y., and then retired after 25 years. Lou brought the same attention to detail to his passion for everything culinary. He was an excellent cook, an experience he often enjoyed with family and friends. Louis was an active lifelong member of the Liverpool Elks Lodge, volunteering in the kitchen at various events as well as serving as a past president. After retiring from Lockheed Martin, he followed the sun to Pinehurst, N.C. Lou was a member of a golf men’s league that played twice a week during which Louis walked the course and carried his own bag 18 holes, which he did up until the week he passed. Lou touched many lives and will be deeply missed. He is survived by daughter, Louise Ann Mongelluzzo and Keith Greene; sister, Jean; Rocky and Amanda Roberts, family of Richard Mongelluzzo; and cousins. He was preceded in death by father, Louis Mongelluzzo; mother, Margaret Keegan; granddaughter, Erica Andrea Mongelluzzo; wife, Ann Mongelluzzo, and cousin, Kathy Mongelluzzo. A memorial service will be held at BOLES FUNERAL HOME on June 29, 2024, with services at 11 a.m. in Southern Pines, N.C. Online condolences may be left at www.bolesfuneralhome. com.
