Clyde Emerson Porter – Charleroi

Clyde Emerson Porter, 98, of Charleroi, died Saturday, June 22, 2024, in his home. He was born on Oct. 17, 1925, to Mina Porter. Clyde attended Monongahela High School and at the age of 16 started working at Liggett Spring and Axle Co. as a welder. He proudly served with the 283rd Engineers Combat Battalion, 1st Platoon, 2nd Squad, Company C during World War II. On Feb. 7, 1948, Clyde married Wilma Jean Frye of Monongahela. From then on, they were always together. He retired from Liggett’s in 1975 to do what he loved: gardening, keeping a beautiful lawn and being with his grandchildren. Clyde is survived by his wife, Wilma Porter; his three daughters, Glenda (John) Podroskey, Judy (Rodney) Cross and Valerie Porter; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn A. Porter. Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Kevin Zufall officiating. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the Monongahela Honor Guard and Firing Squad. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 601 W.
